I made this painting a close copy of the Currier Ives print of the Boston Tea Party that has a copyright in the Public Domain. Though I did not use the whole picture I thought the main idea of throwing tea overboard was captured. The story is that settlers dressed up as Indians to throw the tea overboard.
This defiant act was carried out by Americans who wanted to be independent and not be taxed by England. At the time the United States was ruled by King George in England. As is well known, the United States of America was formed and became independent after the wars for Independence which were fought earlier that 1776.
